A cow with mastitis above. Many cows with rBGH have this chronic condition, and have to be treated with antibiotics for it.
5 reasons why milk is not as healthy as it may seem…
Did you know milk from the United States is banned in Europe? And 27 total countries?
Reason 1: IGF-1
Well it’s not surprising considering all the facts.
Most of the milk that you consume from your grocery store has rBGH or rBST. rBGH is “recombinant bovine growth hormone”, a naturally occurring growth hormone which causes the cow to produce milk. This hormone is reproduced in the lab and injected into the cows to produce more milk.
rBGH causes the cows to produce more IGF-1, insulin growth factor 1. Cows with rBGH have higher level of the IGF – 1.
Increased levels of IGF-1 have been linked to different types of cancer including breast, colon, and prostate cancer.
The majority of cows producing milk in the United States have rBGH
IGF-1 when consumed, is absorbed through the human gut.
People consuming milk from rBGH treated cows have 10% more IGF-1 than those who drank little to no milk.
If you’re drinking milk to be healthy, think again.
Also, interestingly enough, the cows suffer many side effects from the injections including the picture seen above, which is mastitis, swollen udders, and decreased fertility rates…. Although there have been no studies done I wonder if this affects humans. That’s just a personal thought.
Also, the cheese produced from these cows also contains high levels of IGF-1.
Reason 2: Bodily discomfort
Does this sound familiar bloating, gas, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, even nausea and headaches? This is not a coincidence! These are all caused from consuming dairy products such as milk, ice cream, and cheese.
It can take 6 to 12 hours to digest milk.
Less than 40% of people worldwide retain the ability to digest milk.
In general, ability to digest milk stops between the ages of 2-5, for obvious reasons.
When you feel the stomach cramps and pains, the milk is actually fermenting in your intestines.
The human body is not meant to consume a product produced for a cow’s offspring!
Reason 3: No increase in nutritional value compared to almond milk.
Almond milk is not genetically engineered, doesn’t have hormones, steroids, antibiotics, or any other questionable materials and it has better nutritional value for you. It also tastes amazing I personally recommend organic vanilla almond milk. If you can make your own all the better.
Reason 4: A cow’s milk is for baby cows.
Reason 5: everything given to the mother cow is in the milk. Think medicine, hormones, injections, antibiotics, puss from mastis, etc. Think about all the restrictions that we have on nursing moms.
From the American Cancer Society’s webpage:
Of greater concern is the fact that milk from rBGH-treated cows has higher levels of IGF-1, a hormone that normally helps some types of cells to grow. Several studies have found that IGF-1 levels at the high end of the normal range may influence the development of certain tumors. Some early studies found a relationship between blood levels of IGF-1 and the development of prostate, breast, colorectal, and other cancers, but later studies have failed to confirm these reports or have found weaker relationships. While there may be a link between IGF-1 blood levels and cancer, the exact nature of this link remains unclear.
Some studies have shown that adults who drink milk have about 10% higher levels of IGF-1 in their blood than those who drink little or no milk. But this same finding has also been reported in people who drink soymilk. This suggests that the increase in IGF-1 may not be specific to cow’s milk, and may be caused by protein, minerals, or some other factors in milk unrelated to rBGH. There have been no direct comparisons of IGF-1 levels in people who drink ordinary cow’s milk vs. milk stimulated by rBGH.
My personal perspective is why risk it?
When there are so many other healthy alternatives why should I consume a product that may be potentially hazardous to my health not to mention causing me discomfort. It’s interesting that drinking milk is so integrated into our society. This info makes you take a second look at the industries controlling our thoughts on what we should consume.
Although we (now) know that products like ice cream, and cheese pizza also contain these dangerous chemicals- I’m not saying that you should never eat them again but you should at least know what you’re eating! And, don’t be fooled into thinking that you’re eating something healthy!
I personally choose to opt out of drinking cow’s milk because I strive for optimal health. I rather be extremely healthy and choose my poisons carefully instead of my poison be a cup of milk…
